The Reading Room is a great place to read the Christian Science weekly Bible Lesson and find articles that expand on the subject and citations contained therein. This week we found some articles dealing with the Bible Lesson subject for this Sunday, March 29th, on “Reality.” But before we get into the articles, let’s talk a little bit about the mechanics of the Bible Lesson and how we use it for study, prayer, and healing.
Starting at the beginning, when you open your quarterly, full text, or eBibleLesson.com on your web browser, the first section you read is the Golden Text. This short bible verse can go by pretty quickly when you are listening to a church service, but it can be key to unlocking an understanding of the passages that follow. The Golden Text establishes the theme of the lesson and each subsequent section expands upon this theme. If you find yourself wondering how a certain section relates to the week’s topic, or how what it is teaching is relevant and applicable, it can be helpful to refer back to the Golden Text to put it into context.
People find many different ways to find inspiration from the Golden Text in their study and prayer. This article from the January 15, 1977 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel shows how a first grader prayed with the Golden Text and found healing: How I Use the Quarterly (available online with a JSH-Online subscription, on our Reading Room computer, or in the Bound Volumes: 1977 Sentinel, Volume 79, Page 101).
