Testimony Meeting 5/20

05.20.15 SafetyWhen it comes to the great deal of turmoil going on in the world today, like extreme weather phenomena or terrorist attacks, we can find ourselves wondering if we are really safe.  Does nature, chance, or the evil motives of others really govern the course of our lives?  The apostle Paul found an abiding sense of safety in his relationship with God.  Chapter 27 in Acts recounts the journey of Paul and other Christian prisoners as they were brought to Rome by ship.  Along the way Paul felt no threat from his captors, and actually did what he could to help them.  He warned them that an impending storm would mean certain destruction for their ship and cargo, but the sailers didn’t heed his admonition.  When the storm finally did come and the ship was smashed to pieces, Paul assured everyone that they would reach the shore safely.  He could say this with complete confidence because an angel of God told him so, and in the end all 276 people on the ship made it safely to shore.

This type of safety is not dependent upon material safeguards.  In fact in Paul’s case, the lifeboat was long gone by the time it became necessary to abandon ship.  The safety of those passengers came from Divine Principle.  Isaiah write’s of the Lord “Fear not, I am with thee.”  Regardless of circumstances that appear to put us in harms way, we can never be separated from the protection of God.
