Testimony Meeting 7/8

With the celebration of our nation’s birth this fourth of July, we took time to reflect on and be grateful for all of the good our country has accomplished in its relatively short history. Keeping that in mind as we move forward this week, it’s a good time to start thinking about ways in which we can keep growing as a country to more fully live the American dream. How can we keep an eye on making progress? What is needed to combat complacency and stagnation and keep us on the path to a better and brighter future?

In the Old Testament we read about the Israelite Nehemiah and how he fought to make progress for his nation. The wall surrounding Jerusalem had fallen into utter disrepair. To fix it, Nehemiah was granted special provision from the king to return to Judah and rebuild. This wall was necessary for Jerusalem because the city was surrounded on all sides by enemies. These enemies were not happy when Nehemiah started rebuilding the wall. They tried all manner of trickery and deceit to distract Nehemiah from his task.

When faced with these obstacles, Nehemiah knew where to turn. From the  moment he heard that the wall was broken, right up until the last brick was being placed on its freshly laid walls, Nehemiah always turned his thought first to God. He knew from the commandments of Moses that if he was obedient to God, only blessings could follow. By praying and listening for God’s direction each step of the way, Nehemiah made steady progress, and was able to completely restore the wall in only fifty-two days.

Join us this Wednesday, July 8th for readings from the Bible and the Christian Science Textbook on the subject of “Progress.” We will also hear from individuals about how they have made progress by relying on prayer in their lives.  Can’t come in person? Join us on the phone:
