Testimony Meeting 8/5

Perhaps no word is more important to our modern digital age than the word fellowship.  It seems that the more our smartphones, tablets, and computers can do, the less we reach out to others and spend time with our friends, families, and communities.  Time spent with others gives us an important opportunity to practice that most vital skill, loving.  Far more than just convivial and social in nature, fellowship gets to the heart of why we are all here, to be in harmony and unity with one another.

The book of I John in the New Testament gives us a beautiful picture of true fellowship in verses 6 and 7: “If we claim that we experience a shared life with him [God] and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our teeth—we’re not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another,” (The Message).  The author is giving us a clue that our life is meant to be shared with one another.  Mary Baker Eddy explains this same sentinment another way in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “When the divine precepts are understood, they unfold the foundation of fellowship, in which one mind is not at war with another, but all have one Spirit, God, one intelligent source,” (276:4-7).  The whole family of man is one, and this is demonstrated when we practice the law of Love, understanding what God is, and what man is in relation to God.

Join us this Wednesday, August 5th at 7:30pm for our Wednesday night testimony meeting.  We’ll hear readings from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook on the topic of “fellowship” and testimonies from people demonstrating their fellowship with God.
