When God asked King Solomon “What do you want?”, Solomon responded by asking God for understanding to judge the people fairly.  God granted Solomon’s request, and as a result, King Solomon became the wisest and richest king on earth.  The Queen of Sheba herself heard of King Solomon’s fame and came to prove him with questions (pictured above).  What she found was that Solomon’s wisdom and riches exceeded her expectations.

How did King Solomon achieve this stature?  Certainly kings had asked God for these things before, what made Solomon different?  Solomon expressed gratitude.  Giving gratitude to God is a form of prayer where we put our faith in the good we can conceive, even if our understanding of it has not fully matured.  This understanding develops with persistent prayer, which brings to light our true spiritual being, and rejects material sense.  By expressing gratitude for the thing hoped for, the understanding develops to demonstrate the desire, and opens the way for an ever-increasing flow of good.
