Having an open conversation about Jesus or the freedom to attend a Christian church is something which we can easily take for granted as Americans in the year 2015. Even today, being a Christian in certain parts of the world can be reason enough to feel your life is in danger. This danger was something Jesus’ apostles had to deal with all the time in the book of Acts. Far from giving in to this fear, they actively understood the ever present protection of God and demonstrated true freedom from all evil.
Not long after Jesus’ ascension, the Roman authorities were quick to persecute the disciples in order to appease the Jewish priests who felt threatened by their doctrine. In Acts chapter 12 we read that Peter’s friend James was killed by King Herod, and soon thereafter Herod arrested Peter to put him on trial. The thought must have crossed Peter’s mind that this trial could end his life, given the recent events. But Peter did not give in to any doubt or fear that his life was in danger. During the night while he slept, an angel of the Lord came, loosed his bonds, and safely led him to freedom.
Join us in the Sunday School on Sunday, May 31st at 1:00pm as we read and study Acts, chapters 10 through 12, and learn how to apply the same dominion the Apostles demonstrated to our own lives. If you would like to attend our meeting remotely, we will be initiating a live Google Hangout for online participation. To join the hangout, make sure you have a Google+ account, and add Third Church to one of your Google+ circles (click the following link, then add us to one of your circles: https://plus.google.com/u/1/115799006065015575855/posts). Once you have done this, send your name, email, and Google+ account to ThirdChurchOffice@juno.com with the subject line “Bible Study 5/31” and we’ll send you further instructions on how to join.
Looking forward to sharing on the hangout in Google+ what a great way to share with the world! Thank you for all you are doing!
