Of all the stories of Christmas that have been told and retold, not much has been said about Joseph, the husband of Mary. What were Joseph’s contributions to the early life of Jesus? And in particular, what was Joseph’s part in this heavenly event with Mary, the star, the Angels, the shepherds, and wise men?
Before the birth of Jesus, Joseph sets out with Mary, who was “great with child, unto the City of David, which is called Bethlehem” to be taxed. While they were in Bethlehem, “the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.” Luke 2:4-6
There is no room for them in the inn and this is where the story begins. In my imagination, I can just see Joseph leading the donkey, with Mary on its back, from inn to inn desperately searching for a place to give birth. Perhaps, he is now at the very last inn in Bethlehem with the night coming on.
At this last possible chance, he is yet again met with “No Vacancy.”
I hope you enjoy!
