Testimony Meeting 5/6

05.06.15 PeaceFrom the recent protests in Baltimore to the ongoing unrest in Afghanistan and countless other places around the world, one thing is apparent: the need for peace.  How do we make progress towards abiding peace?  Isaiah prophesied that the Christ would be the “Prince of Peace,” and that “the government will be on his shoulders.”  In his vision he saw an end to all war where swords would be beaten into plowshares.  In the New Testament we read all about Christ Jesus’ earthly career as prophesied by Isaiah.  He brought peace to many struggling hearts, but he never established an earthly kingdom or government that would enforce peace for all mankind, as many of his disciples thought he would.  So what did Isaiah mean when he said “the government will be on his shoulders”?

In the book of Revelation John describes a vision in which he sees a new heaven and a new earth.  This new heaven and new earth are God’s true spiritual creation and in them there is no war or strife.  The new heaven and earth are indestructible ideas, and they are governed by the Christ.  When we work each day to see past material forms to true spiritual creation we gain a better vision of this new heaven and earth.  In the same way Jesus brought healing to countless individuals, we can do the same, and this healing work does bring peace to our lives and the world we live in.
